That's the first service - they'll just get the break-in oil out, which contains all the little metal bits that you've burred off wearing in the engine.

Get them to put in Mobil 1 or Castrol Magnatec - this will get you well past 15000 km with no troubles.

Your manual describes the method on how to reset the counter, but let the dealer do it after the oil change.

Do you have QG1 or QG2 option (again, front of the manual). QG1 is the best - it is the variable long life servicing option. You can go for two years or 30,000 km before changing your oil with QG1, but I don't think VW Australia imports this option. Oil changes are money for jam with car dealers - they prey on the ignorance of their clientele who just want to look after their new babies. In Europe, most service intervals will be legally mandated to 30,000 / 2 year to reduce wastage. Audi A2's already do this, and most of the diesel VW range. At least we're better than the US where they do 3-5000 mile oil changes (ridiculous).
