Just received the certificate, anyone tell me if the 34hp engine was common? I thought they were 40hp in 62.

bottom part says it was a CKD

I had a roam around the beetle history websites tonight, and the results are somewhat fuzzy. All (except http://www.lennysvw.com,  and that has other errors) agree that the step up from 34 hp to the 1300-40 hp did not occur until '66.

Just about every site contradicts the other with respect to horsepower pre-1960, with figures of 34, 36 and 30 hp cited. This might be something to do with SAE vs DIN horsepower measurement methods.

As modulus mentioned, this is a difference in measurement methods.

The 36 and 40 HP engines that we are used to are measured to SAE standards (Society of Automotive engineers) which is a US std. The 34bhp is the DIN rating, which is a German std.

Designed especially to confuse........

A slightly more complete mailing address is:

Stiftung AutoMuseum Volkswagen
Frau Neefe
Dieselstrasse 35
Brieffach 1003
38446 Wolfsburg
GERMANY

(Frau Neefe is the lady in charge of the 'identity certificates' process).

You SHOULD NOT be even thinking of putting your credit card details in an email.

bottom part says it was a CKD

It means the car was sent to Aussie in parts and assembled here utilizing some Australian content, glass, carpets, trim etc etc
