hey people
this is all happening to our type 3 1500 motor.
it struggles to idle and when giving it a boot full in 4th and slowning down u get a big bang and then when it gets hot it struggles to even go!!
its running the twin 1500 carbies which have been rebuilt.
any help ????

Sounds like lean mixture.
Look for vacuum leaks.

I agree with MNS Kombi
this is usually a timing /distributor guts issue, the carbies are the last thing that should be touched unless something is visually obvious

Dont know much about Type 3's but in a Kombi there is a balance tube between the carbs, sometimes the rubber elbow's come off the pipe creating a vacumm leak, the symtoms are the same as you mentioned. might be worth a look if there is a similar balance tube in your car it could be the problem.

sounds like dissy,if you havn't, why not put a NEW 009 in it ,their cheap enough.

it has a 009 in it we will put the original back in!!!
we have blocked off the balance tubes should we unblock then and stick in the balance tube??

That might help a heck of a lot! Without the balance tube the poor little 34picts will be suffering badly from the reversion pulses.

fiddled around with the leads and it has become alot better!!! it is know not idling and backfiring have got rid of it running like a dog!!!
