MASSIVE PROBLEMS...
well someone came to have a look at my super bug with the turbo today........
took it for a test drive with a mate, it came back and he's shredded the driveshaft/wheelbearings etc :cry
obviously after this the guy said he didn't wanna take it.. i asked him what he did and he said: he dropped it at the lights proceeded to take a
corner at really high speeds revving the thing out to 7000rpm, lost
control, and did a 360, so decided that that was cool and decided to
continue the circle work and that's when it stuffed up.... :cry
i felt like smacking him in the teeth. i should've too!
anyways if this isn't a dilemma enough, the driveshaft and wheels bearings were off a porsche '67 912 and a 72 superbug (the driveshaft was
half '72 (in the gearbox) and at the wheels they were '67, so the shafts were cut and welded accoringly...
so now my question.... does anyone know of anywhere that sells '67 912 parts.... or would it be cheaper to get a '72 rear end and putting
that in there changing the rear brakes back to drum etc... any help appreciated...
:cry
Yianni
p.s: i know there are alot of 's but that's cos i am.

Mate, If he broke it he should pay for it! Did you get his license number before letting him go out in the car? If you did then I would report him
for dangerous driving and malicous damage to your car! I was selling my mate's Mitsubish FTO very cheap for about a month. The amount of times
people say they will come round and don't turn up, or they will call back after they've hooned around the block in it! Unbelievable!!
Unfortunately most of my spares are 60's beetle or else I'd chip in!
Best o luck
Steve

If your trying to sell a car like that you should definitely not let someone take the car for a drive without you in the car.
Too late now I guess...
So lets get it clear what you are talking about. You mean the rear stub axles? The guy has somehow stripped the splines on the stub?
And you don't have a normal stub, you have a weird half porsche, half vw so you can run porsche discs and vw CV's?
Who made the stubs in the first place?

thanks for the support steve mate, i've already been on the blower with a few people and unfortunately as Wes said i can't do much cos i let
him out there on his own,.... farkit ay.
Wes: yeah that's what i'm talking about... you should now try and decrypt hyrogliphics... prolly be easier than my babble...
They were originally done by Rod Penrose. Down in woollongong.
My mechanic was on the blower to him earlier talking about it.. my mechanic doesn't look to happy about taking the job any more.
BTW if onyone wants a project make an offer... LOL. :cry
thanks for all the support guys... you are all like distant mates... this forum is great.
Thanks again.

i wouldnt let anyone test drive my car when selling it...
they flog the crap out of them to see how they go.
It might be cheaper to go back to Rear drum etc etc
Ring or go see Boris at VVDS 9789-1777 he can probally help you out.

First of all, when selling anything good I take THEM for a drive, they can play passenger for as long as I own it. I never let them test drive it
unless i'm in the car and I ALREADY have a substantial deposit. if they damage it, then they dont get their deposit back.
Yianni, do you have their details? small claims tribunal will let you sue them for the damage.
will the type 3 rear end stuff get you out of trouble? I can haul it out and put it towards the price of the '74 if you like...
If it aint broke,
Make it go faster!!

legends...
thanks for all the help guys....
I'm going to VVDS this thursday to pick up some beading... so i'll chat to him then.. problem is i can't have it costing a fortune...
the reason i'm selling is that i'm in debt up to my ears...
Secoh: if i find out that the red bug can be easily transplanted using the type 3 then i guess so mate. I'll find out more and let you know.
Thanks once again for all the help guys. Much appreciated.

Whart a bummer Yianni - maybe he needs a few of us to go lean on him, or test drive his car for him - got any big power poles in your area we could
use for slalom practice?
I had a similar thought to a few posters above - convert is back to straight 72 IRS and use type3 backing plates and drums.
Not too pricey and you get 1/2 decent brakes for the performance you have in that thing (hell, I've never even SAT in a turboed bug!)

custom parts
Romac engineering in QLD can make you the drive axles and / or stub you are looking for.
If this all becomes too expensive i have another contact in QLD who can assist but is booked up until end Feb on other projects.

vdub2c,
Ive got a pair of Type 3 (yellow podercoated) axles lying around if theyre any good to you. You can have them. You then just need to get a couple of
CV joints, stub axles and brakes to suit and youre laughin'

Jeesus what a prick
Many commiserations mate. I know how much effort goes into building a car, especially anything modified that you had to fabricate bits for. To see it
come back broken must have been heart breaking. I know I probably wouldnt have had the self control that you showed, I would have smacked him.
But, it just shows you are above that level. I'm a firm believer in Karma - what goes around comes around. He'll get his one day mate, dont
worry about that.
Go the T3 drums etc. best compromise I think.

a quick update...
Hey Guys, and gals,
firstly thanks heaps for all the kind words.
last week i head up the coast from some "time away" just camped out under the stars in various places not spending any money just getting
away from it all. No phone - No Net - No Work - No nothing.. twas unreal.
came back last night, after the bushfires died off enough allowing us to use the roads coming back to sydney. anyways, got back last night and called
my mechanic... he did a bit of research (thanks Boris from VVDS) and found out that the porsche 912 bits i weas so desperately looking for... are
interchangeable with 72 super parts! took a huge weight offa my mind!
so my mechanic says it'll be done within the week... and back to brand new!
thanks a bunch everyone! :kiss

Intechangable ??
Hi, Just got onto your post, the guy sounds like an absolute ^$#%$#@.
Anyway, doesn't a 912 use a type 2 CV instead of a type 1 ?
If they are the same why would you change them in the first place ??
Just doing some research for my buggy project and you have my interest.
I hope you send him the bill.. |

from my little 2 no knowledge...
ok this is what i understand to be the situation...
the 912 parts are thicker/lighter/ and longer... they were cut and welded down to fit the sam e specs as a type 1 rear... - but they'd still get
the strength etc from the 912 parts... so what i was told... we that because the arms etc have been cut, the original type 1 bits all fit in the 914
trailing arms etc... i'm not a mechanic so i don't know exactly.. but hey, if the thing is up and running again for minimum fuss, then
i'm not one to question.. mind you i am interested int how it will all go together, i'll keep you posted with pics when i get it back
though. i may ask my mechanic if he wouldn't mind writing up a few paragraphs on it, so he can explain it better than i can
i'll keep y'all posted.
:bounce blue74L: yeah sometimes you're just lucky, maybe it is my Karma as Doug said.. i didn't hit the bloke so instead, i got some good
news out of it... who knows! lol!

I like to think it works sometimes. Usually its just something I tell myself to make me feel better but its really good to see that you will be able to get the car back on the road. :bounce
