*doonk* sound from behind seat

whenever im going slow (first or second gear) and i take my foot off the accelerator, i hear and feel a loud *doonk* sound from behind the drivers seat, it also happens on occasion when im changing up from 1st to 2nd on a hill.
any ideas on what this could be?

Have a look and see if the gearstick moves at the same time that you are on & off the throttle.....definately sounds like a broken gearbox mount

Hey,
While you're checking the mount, don't just check that the mount is broken because i've also had the nuts on the front gearbox mount just come loose. :thumb

i was hoping it wasnt a gearboxy thing...
could that also explain why it pops out of reverse and 2nd sometimes?
is it easy and inexpensive to fix, or am i going to have to put off buying some textbooks?

are you planning on fixing it yourself?

I know mine did the same thing, (64 swingaxle)... except mine went all the way,, you could feel the engine move(via acellorator cable,, reeeevvvvvvv) as the gearbox flapped about.. doonked and crunched like crazy,, kept popping out of gear etc.....basically the whole thing tilted..

crawled under car and found the mount rubber had basically split.. I was lucky as it had 2 brackets welded, so it was a matter of undoing the bolts and putting a new one in... have a look at the mount at the thin end of box,,, see if the bolts need tightening,,, the slightest bit of movement can cause hassles!!!

worst case scenario....If you have the standard mount,, i think you may have to pull the engine??? someone in here would have better idea than me..

But may i suggest you purchase an idiots manual along with your text books....I bought mine 11yrs ago,, It guided me through many a repair, saved me thousands of dollars,,, and I no longer am in RACQ..lol... I have pulled my engine a couple of times now.... not a lot too it..lol...

iffin you're lucky it'll cost you about five wriggling-under-the-car minutes with a spanner, iffin you're slightly less lucky it'll cost you 50 cents in nuts.

if you look, we'll know how unlucky you are ;)
