Air Filters and Carbs


hi

got a 69 sardine top bug with a 1600 motor, and I want to bin the standard carb and air filter - filter first, what's recommended? has anyone stuck twin SU's on a bug? - they seem to work with everything else......

Twin Kadron or Weber ICT or Delorto FRD - all single barrel

Weber IDF or Delorto DRLA - twin dual barrel

They are the preferred choice for street going cars

Dont "think" i have heard of SU's????

Anything is possible.......

Ive seen an SU used on a draw through turbo set up, mid mounted in a trike. Engine was a single port 1600 - it ran a high 12 - was that the sort of SU you were going to use ???

SU's are off British Cars...


SU's were used on the BMC Mini & maybe other british cars in the 60's-early 70's.
They are very similar to a Motorcycle carburetor... not many moving parts etc...
Never seen one on a VW though... Kadrons [solex ] & webers are the most common... Twin Carbies do make a difference over the stardard single carby setup.... Atomised fuel doesn't have far to go to the cylinders...

yep SUs are british carbs


that's why i was asking, most of my cars have been old brits - minis, triumphs, BMC etc, so I'm used to SU's - very simple, very reliable

unfortunately I'm off the carb hunt - discovered a bit of a mess in the floorpan while poking around underneath this morning, so the money will be spent on welding - pdq, before my seat goes through the floor! then on new roof to stop the water getting in there in the first place!!
