New chat system not responding in Mozilla 1.3

I understand the chat app has been changed recently. When I try to start Chat in the Mozilla 1.3 browser (which worked previously), I get the message "Applet notinited"

Here's what my browser returns for the Java Plugins:

Please upgrade to Mozilla 1.7 or use a full IRC client.

Mozilla 1.7 installer:

Or go to ChatCentral and get their version of mIRC already pre-configured to access our chatroom's server:
