Oil Breather Boxes....
Who can tell me where I can get a good breather box in Australia ? And what is a good price to pay for one ?

breather boxes
I got mine custom made at an exhaust shop. It cost me $65 plus fittings and hoses etc. Mine is made from tube and runs along the top of the fan
shroud, where the single carby is normally. all up including hoses, rocker cover fittings etc it cost me $130 ish dollars ( thats without a filter on
top, I just cut up an older finer filter from a 4Wd) If u get it custom made u can have whatever size inlets/utlets etc and in the best location for
ur engine setup.

I haven't seen a good off the shelf breather around QLD. I had to make mine myself, a modified version of an off the shelf item. My could be
bigger to work a little better.

A breather box is an air/oil seperator. It should be big enough that the air velocity inside is slow enough for the oil vapors to drop out of
suspension and return to the sump. Not all of my vapors drop out of suspension, some make it out. It makes my breather filters excessively oily.
Doesn't do anything to performance though.

James2 on the CLF made one out of PCV pipe which sounded interesting. Would easy to work with using basic hand tools and expoxy or whatever.
I made mine using a diecast aluminum box from Jaycar that I filled with pot scourers to hopefully scrub (pun intended) the oil droplets before they
get to the air filters. I had -8 nipples welded in, however, it'd be cheaper and easier just to use brass hosetails. Mine is quite small though,
and I heard you may need at least a 1L pot to go drag racing. Haven't verified it though,

Breather Kits
Last time I bought one it was about $60 which included the alloy oil cap and fittings. Contact our sponsor for a more up to date price.
They are simple and work well. If in doubt add an air cleaner on like Wes, I have never had a problem running it as is.

Although I wouldn't normally do this, I am going to agree with Ben
Those breather kits are terrible as standard, as that is what mine used to be. The piece of foam inside just fills with oil and makes it spill over
the edges.
Mine is one of those, but hollow with a few custom baffles inside, and the entire top completely sealed. The blowby from the engine then enter through
2 vents in the box, passes through the baffles and exits out another two vents where it then goes to two K&N style filters.
And that is why I said my breather box is too small, because I have one of those.
And the standard hose in that kit is useless and closes up all the time. I use blue coloured air tool hose.

There is a place here in Brisbane (on Moss St for those Brisbanites) called Hardcore Racing Components (3299 4344). They make these pretty trick
looking breathers out of alloy which is then polished. They are made out of a tube sealed at one end with a breather on the other (if you have it
mounted vertically) with as many threaded inlets as you want (whatever positions and different thread sizes etc). They basically can make them to suit
your application and they cost around $120 and look very professional. Sorry I don't have pics since I haven't bought one yet - will do so
for my Type IV into bug conversion.

I will have to disagree with you on this. As stated in the post I have one and have had no probs with it. I am not running a huge engine and have just
as much blow buy as the next guy.
So my opinion stands, in my experience I have never had any problems what so ever with them in stock form. As for the standard one being better, what
model do you have that came from the factory with vented valve covers ???

Thanks for all the advice guys. The consensus that I am picking up is that the standard alloy breather boxes are ok, but not flash.
I have decided to make one now. Cant be too hard.
Are the hose barbs hard to get hold of ?

Thanks sleep 3 , must go and check out the wreckers for containers.
My 2L plastic bottle just doesnt look too "engineered". Whilst there might look for Water injection resorvoir as well.
Cant count the wine - as long as it tastes good.
