How old was he?
Was he the one driving a car and supposed to be able to avoid a crash?
If the driver had been doing 40kms the car wouldn't have hit so hard...
What a load of shit this post is but I get mad when people try to blame laws that are put in place for common good to make a point of how important their time is. Driving a car requires constant judgement call to avoid collisions. If a driver can't cope with varying speed limits and road conditions there is a solution..Give up driving and catch public transport..or buy a bike..but the helmet probably wouldn't fit the swollen head.
And no I am not a copper, but I am old enough to remember before lollypop supervisors; it was common to have children getting run over and killed at school crossings
Anything that makes it safer for them is worth a go.

I lived in Tucson Arizona for a few years a while back. Over there whenever a school bus stopped to drop off kids a light would flash on the front and back of the bus and all traffic on the road, no matter what direction it was travelling or how big the road, had to come to a complete stop while the kids got off. They also had timed school zones but again each zone had a flashing light when operating so you were always reminded to slow down. This system worked well and noone seemed to complain about it.

when my father went to school about 27 years ago a teacher of his was driving down around townsville when a shoolbus stopped up the road from him......2 young girls ran accross the road in front of his car and both were killed. this is the exact reason why australian school busses now have flashing lights to warn drivers......however its not enough......it takes someone to die for people to realise that things arent safe.....amazer if someone had run out in front of your car while u were doing 75 in a 40 zone u would have thought differently.....i knwo what u say about the swamp and the kids being picked up ....but all it takes is one child to cross that road when someone is speeding and unable to stop to end that childs life.

I wonder if the parents ever coached their kids on the safe way to cross the raod. Were the parents there to help.

Probably not, so every motorist is now burdened with the results of what happens when no-one takes responsibility for their own actions.

As was said before "the lowest common denominator".

I had a cousin killed in a school bus accident but the driver of the car shouldn't be punished, he wasn't doing anything wrong. It's just a damn shame.

Tuesday just gone, was driving home early. Was turning a corner that was about 500m from a school, not a 40 zone but 50 residential, and sitting on an island was a boy, about 10yrs old. I noticed the boy and went around the corner with my foot perched above the brake.........thank god.......he didn't look to see if anyone was coming.......missed him by a good 2mtrs. He looked mortified but all he could say was "Sorry, sorry". We ALL use the road system...my dad had a saying everytime I drove away from their house "Share the road, dont compete for it".

Some people drive in a daze, some people walk in a daze and some people just have no f@#king idea...
Another classic - picked up my 5yr old boy last week from school and walking back to the car another car drove by with a girl "hanging" half way out the back window. The car did a uturn at the end of the street and the girl went to the other side of the car and did the same. Sounds stupid doesn't it??? Well here is stupid....THE FATHER HAD HIS SEATBELT ON AND THE 4MTH OLD DAUGHTER WAS SAFELY STRAPPED INTO HER CAPSULE.......Dont figure does it?

Winter is here.........Footy is here........now where is my beer.........
