Guess they are trying to fix the bandwidth problem...It would be a last resort from admin....

The forum won't be the same with out all the pics up but we are such snap happy lot around here....

I notice the forum was down again late last night due to exceeding bandwidth:jesus

I've been guilty in the past for bringing us down.....(pics from DOVW)...and so had been reluctant to repost pics of my rides as lots of event pics were being posted this week...thought it might have been tempting fate again...

If you have to click on the link to see the pic does that mean we can post larger pics.

I noticed there were some huge pics from the jamboree. I can't post anything larger than 50k which takes out a lot of detail.

i think we had like four different people posting pics of hte jamboree. sure that didnt help, as you get repeats. i thought there was discussion onve about hosting show pics elsewhere to help save our bandwidth. hope the attachment thing is only temp as it is not as good as having the pics appear.

i think the only way you can get bigger pics is to host else where and link an image attachment.

If this move saves bandwith and means that the forum won't drop out towards the end of the month,
Then i say go for it.
Yes seeing pics is nice, but i would rather see the forum always running.

Yep, we use this mode when we need to save bandwidth. I will be pruning big pictures (over 50 kb) in the next day or so.

16 GB a month. March was a long month, but every time we have a big event (Jamboree, etc), we do this. At some stage, we will need to go to a plan with more than 16 GB a month, as the traffic savings I've done since December are starting to be used up as we grow.

If someone can tell me how to do it with telstra bigpond I'll be in it. I've gone to their poxy home page but I'm still none the wiser...Some would say I'm in my normal state that way...

Ok.

1 - The 50kb limit was misplaced in the change over to 1.9 that is why we exceeded our bandwidth. Vanderaj and I were deleteing many HUGE images I mean like 500kb and up .

2- Bandwidthisn't cheap, we will shortly be upgrading to about double what we have, and no this will not change the 50kb limit.

3- In regards to detail on a 50kb picture....... A computer is more than happy with 72 DPI so there is no issue with 50kb. If people want more detail then ask for the original or host it off site.

4 - The Attachmnet click here will be gone very soon, like now.

5 - This is our forum, please don't start posting big images just cause it lets you all of a sudden. It is not Admins against big images, it is the $$$$ and dial up customers who connect at 21.2 kbps like me that hate them.

6 - We hit 18GB last month in Bandwidth due to big images

7 - If anyone wants to discuss computer graphics and DPI / Image resolution with me then please feel free to do so. Maybe we can work out a better system ..

Thanks again Andrew and Brad for your tireless efforts in keeping this VW community service up and running!!

Just a query though, will the multiple attachments be back? Mainly in the members section there are double, triple or quadruple posts (where previously there were more than one image in that post). Also some posts seem to be missing (even ones before the crash) - for example in my 1963 beetle project resto - it says on the main page that buggybrad posted the last reply but when you open up the last page of the post it is not there??

I still seem to get the little white box with red cross where the images should be as well?

thanks for the assistance, I know you are all working hard to get things right and we do appreciate it!

Alan
