I got in my dads brand new 67 Pontiac Laurentian (like a chevy impala) and pulled it from park into drive.. Sailed down this long steep driveway,
through a fence, across neighbours back lawn and through another fence.. I was very little but remember when the car came to a stop, I got up form the
cavernous floor and looked out the back window.. I'll never forget my dads face as he came hurling down the driveway, leapt the broken fence like an
Olympic sprinter and raced over to the door, yanked it open, grabbed me by the arm and smacked my arse.. Funny, I was fine up till then but as soon as
he hit me, I pissed my pants..

come-a-gutsas
Got this big hill across the road from my house. Been the source of many an injury. Mum would never let me have a skateboard, but the tom boy across
the road let me have a go on hers. So I goes up the hill and sat on this board thinking I would ride it to the bottom. Halfway down the hill somehow
my finger went under the wheel. Went hurtling arms and legs everywhere. My fingernail was ripped off. I stuck my finger in my mouth (as you do) and
ran home, bashing on the door for mummy to answer it. I was covered in blood and she thought I'd been hit by a car.
The other 2 were on my bike. Chucked a wheelly coming down the hill one day. Only the front wheel parted company with the frame and I went splat. But
the worst one, the one I remember most at least, was chasing a Mr Whippy van down the hill. Got a serious case of the death wobbles, that Mick Doohan
wouldnt have been able to pull out of. But I did... just before I hit the gutter. Went over the handlebars, through the air and landed on my back,
leaving most of the skin behind. I didnt feel the bruising for a few days. The burning sensation was too much.
The one I got in most trouble for was when I was 16. Mum and Dad were away so I took the car to tech. I was going to get this car as a present when I
got my licence. The night before I bought a very cool voxon tape deck for it and left it on the seat. With the window down. When I came out of tech
that afternoon I was spewing. Everyone else was in on the joke that a mate had took it. Well they eventually gave it back and I took off. Got halfway
home going round a bend and lost control. I remember there was a kombi coming the other way meaning I couldnt cut the corner. So I had a tank slapper,
went thru a front fence, over a tree and came to rest on the side fence. Cops came, and I went for a ride in the back of a divvy van, going to court
etc. I was very lucky. Taught me I wasnt invincible. Not that I learnt my lesson, I still did a few more stupid things in a car, but not AS stupid.

Come to think of it I had heaps of good bike stacks.
I was evil knievel. Rode my bike up a plank across the saw horse and down a plank the other side. That worked well untill the front wheel came off the
plank and I hit the ground head first.
I once popped a wheely too far and went right over, landing head firs on the concrete. I felt dizzy but not too dizzy to want to murder my sister cos
she was too dumb to know how to hold her fingers up and ask me how many. Didnt she watch football???
All this in the days before helmets. Might explain a few of my shortcomings as an adult though.
I guess I was a bit of a bully to my sister. WE fought like cats and dogs. Well this continued up until I was 28 actually and she moved out of my
house. But the worst thing I ever did to her was hit her in the eye with a smurf. Scared the crap out of me. I thought she would be blind.

my family is quite well known for cycling accidents, my mother tried to ride her trike down the front steps of her house and ended with her head in a
potplant, a few years later her brother convinced her to ride down the hill on templestow road with no hands. all good until she hit a parked
truck.
her mother broke the brakes on her bike while riding on the footpath, hit a bus and flew clean over it onto the grass strip in the middle of the
road.
i have been fairly controlled, myself. experimented with the suspension on my brnad new MTB and ended up out cold in the middle of the road with no
skin on my elbows or knees and a front wheel in the shape of an S. most of the rest of the time is just tight calls though, like riding a dragster on
20yr old tyres and snapping the brake cable, doing 50+k/h (i have since tested the hill on my MTB and did 50 with brakes on) into a sharp right hand
turn, tyres 1/2 slid out and grazed the kurb but amde it, for anyone who hasnt ridden a long frame dragster, you do not realise that the only form of
steering on these bikes over 25k/h is lean steer (not good on crummy tyres)
some more interesting bike facts i have learnt: at 60k/h with a head wind the front tyre of a MTB lifts off the ground.
you know your dragster needs new tyres when the FRONT wheel locks up and simply slides on wet grass. you really need new tyres when your front wheel
simply locks and slides ON A DRY ROAD.
when the seat bolts fall off you cannot sit on the seat
when the pedal falls off the shaft so does your foot
when the bottom bracket shits itself, you cannot ride
when your brakes do not bring you to a stop on the flat, they will not even slow you down very steep hills
when you are riding a cool bike and a P-plater is coming up behind with his window down, GET OFF THE ROAD! the sh1ts yell, drive too close, and throw
stuff at you.
justa few safety hints from a wary friend who does too many stupid things on bikes and gets away with it.

I was such a daredevil/clumsy kid that my parents got questioned at my school about child abuse- I was ALWAYS getting bruises from doing something
stupid.
Prolly my best stunt was when I was about 2, i was sitting in the car at the petrol station waiting for my dad to play. My older sister was in the
passenger seat so I climbed in the car and started pretending I was driving. I knocked the hand brake off and started rolling towards the shop. My dad
saw and his first reaction was to jump out in front of the car to stop it. I ran over his leg, crushing every ligament (but not a single bone). 7
weeks later, he went back to work but his leg still play up now, nineteen years on.
My dad got in trouble off my mum for leaving me in the car and I got hugs. How was that fair? My poor daddy... :kiss |

when i was a wee tucker...(which wasnt that long ago im 17 now)....we had this jump out of the town park gate and up over the gutter.....it was an
awesome launch...got some serious air...only drawback was that u landed on one of the busiest streets in our tired little town (kenilworth by the way
is where i grew up....those of you going on the easter cruise from caloundra will see )......one day i did a nice air off the gutter and landed right
in front of a speeding car......i was so scared....i pedaled faster than i ever have and he locked up the brakes of his trusty falcon and we missed
each other by a hair.......i rode away as quick as i could to avoid judgement lol.............i also had a rather bad stack on my pushy when i decided
to do a whip when i was hurtling down the hill next to the cheese factory lol that ended with me having considerably less skin on one side of my
body...a buckled rim and a trip to the doctor to remove the peices of blue metal from my thigh!........ive had numerous other mishaps....might leave
them out

LOL
What a bunch of whackos
i used to race around Amaroo park on my bmx too, it was so coool.
bits of skin of mine are left all over dural from my first tricycle (yes you can go too fast in a tricycle) to my brothers' treasured BMX's. mine
were all mysteriously dead by that stage. We used to ride out of our street and ride up old northern road (stupidly busy with traffic) with whatever
change we could scrounge from the ashtrays of mum and dad's car up to the local milkbar to get lollies. we got found out when one day we found this
cool fluro tube and rode back with it, on the tricycle, chariot style and smashed the tube (made a cool bangpop noise!) and the front wheel when we
hit a pothole flying thru a downhill corner. we dragged the trike back and had to explain the little bits of glass embedded in us and the reason the
trike now only had two back wheels.
I've slammed into telegraph poles on rollerblades, rammed low garden walls with my head (broke three terracotta tiles with my forehead!), carved
chunks out of my knees, ground down elbows, been tire-tapped by a swerving car, and once lowered wind resistance by loosening the bar-frame head grip
and pushing the handlebars forwards right down over the front wheel. if that car hadn't come up the hill on the right side of the road and I had some
way of steering and seeing where i was going i might have broken the landspeed record. instead i just ended up embedded in the bushes on the side of
the hill after hittiing some errant chunks of wayward sandstone. possibly my finest hour was deciding to put armorall on the sides of the back wheel
of my brother's Yamaha FZR to make it all black and shiny. and slippery. which my knees discovered at the first roundabout i came to. about two
seconds after the bike skidded to a halt he was to be seen driving around the roundabout from the opposite direction and swearing at me for trashing
his bike.. a few more seconds and i would have had it up and been standing nonchalantly in the middle of the road with two holes in my knees the size
of 50c coins. Oh and i took off in front of a crowded shopping mall with the disc lock on and stylishly lurched sideways onto the floor...
and this week my bike should just be finished being resprayed and straightened after a woman turned across in front of me and stopped dead with the
"o" face while i jumped over her bonnet and ditched the bike into the front of it. I'm still here. but the bike's gonna be back real soon so i can
get back to the laborious exfoliation process again :thumb
there are way too many stories... have they banned bmx's and home-made jumps yet? shall we talk about the skateboard daredevilry now?

borrowed laffs
some really cool kid borrowed my bike once and snapped his wrist (looked so weird and pointy and bung) riding it down a flight of stairs for some
girls viewing pleasure (one of them vomited after seeing his arm). luckily my bike was okay.
and one of my brohters little 4y/o toddler daredevil friends rode our LONG, steep driveway flat out on a trike into the back of our towbar. he stopped
with his head. it was freaky that he then stood up and laughed crazily... while a HUGE egg starting swelling out of his head. eeeeggghhhh. *shudder*

ha ha ha, i remember a day when i was young...very fond, here i was with the funniest bike ever, it was a cruizer when they werent in fashion with the
padded back rest. Now being rather dumb i thought lets see how i go on the bike track. well i didnt get too far with a heavish bike on a bmx track
going over bumps and too much back end weight flip nose on end and somehow ended up on top of me, ended up with a few scratches but no major damage,
only broken bones playing football, the bike needed a headstem fix and i think the back wheel got buckled slightly but i could still ride it home.....

And had a good lawn mower crash one day, me and my brothers are prone to this on lawn mowers. I was at my uncles place, and he wasnt home, but my aunt
asked me to mow the lawn, they have a ride on. Anyway i figured i be right with it, it was somewhat cumbersome. I was fine for most of the time with
it until i needed to brake...he he, it had a clutch and i couldnt reach it while on the brake if i was sitting down, so i had to stand up a bit to be
make it work, unfortunately that made it hard to steer. I thought i had it all covered but it wasnt long before i was loosing control a bit almost
chopping down trees scraping things, and finally running into a fence.....oh no!!!! how would i explain this!!! turns out they didnt care so long as
the ducks didnt get out so i had to fix the fence fast. never ridden a ride on mower since.
