Dubs On Fire (God Forbid)

I just had a guy I was gonna buy a dub off tell me he's only gonna sell it to a dealer now because he heard they're not good cars and they always catch on fire.

He recommended I consider purchasing a Toyota or Honda as he felt they were a lot more suitable for my needs...I have never even met this guy!

How often have you guys heard of fuel lines bursting into flames on Beetles?

Yep! Always! That's why there are no more Dubs around nowadays. Only photos, good memories, and large piles of ashes.

i have had my old baja catch fire only due to a leaking fuel pump which i had pulled apart over ten times on the way home one night form Nanango after an offroad race. i had rust in the fuel tank and it kept getting into the fuel pump. it was my own fault trying to fix it and get home at 3 in the morning.
Very rare to see bettle burn, happens more to kombi's due to overheating, poor air flow and old fuel lines. simple way to fix the problem is increase air flow over motor and make sure all lines and connectors are in good condition

Sweetheart, they're what they call aluminium cans after they no longer serve their purpose and are ready for recycling.

Don't touch them, they're toxic.

Pretty much common sense tho'. If you're regularly crawling around under your ride like you should be, then you notice such things.

In my job I've seen, and been to, many a car fire. Some deliberate, some not.

Never seen a VW burn.

I think he was a little miss-led, prolly by a car dealer.
