if coming by car from melbourne ,you get off of freeway at liverpool exit . head into liverpool till you hit Elizabeth drive .take a left there and follow it out for a few klms till you come to Smithfield rd and turn right the showground is a couple of ks north on your left. There should be a maccas and a shell servo on the corner of Smithfield road. thats basically it.
just read other post if flying up need to get train to Fairfield station(which is on the Granville Line) then catch a cab as dont think busses run by there.

ITs at least 10Klms from the Train station at Fairfield.

If you get the train from airport back into Redfern or Central then you can catch back ouit to Fairfield.

Maybe someone could give you a lift to the station ?
I would but I'm only there in the morning and will be leaving at around lunch time.

Your'e better off hiring a cheap car from the airport because by the time you pay for 2 cabs and train fare it will probably work out close. Then you have your own convenience. If you can afford the airfare then you can certainly afford car hire.

Watch yourself in the train stations , especially Redfern! Not exactly a place to be wondering around looking lost!
