yeah I suppose :)

but I don't you need to be an engineer to make the observations that I, or Brad have made.

I got nothing against rear mounted radiators, mine is a rear mounted radiator. Mine also isn't the perfect set-up and needs a couple of small deflectors for continuous high-speed use. I found out by trial and error, but with a lot of careful intial thought my set-up is pretty good as is so far.

I'm not knocking your idea's, I'm just adding "have you thought about" comments.

I am confussed what does being a tradesman do to air flow ? It is the same for engineers and tradesman alike.

I hope it works but I can't see how.

Dunno what race cars you have looked at but I have never seen an offroader with a rad mounted in that way. My issue is with the air flow not the rad itself. Your fans are sucking ?? yes ??? if so they are pulling air from inside the car .. yes ? So if the rad gets a hole in it the steam goes into the passenger area ???

I just can't see the thermo's pulling enough air to compensate for the amount of air pushing up from under the pan.

Better gat back to the shed now as I don't even have a rad in mine yet :<

On my car, at speeds of up to 110kph the air happily flows under the car and then curves up to the radiator, then gets sucked out the rear of the car.

At speed of 110kph and higher, the air flows under the car but is going too fast to curve up to the radiator. This creates a low pressure pocket in front of the radiator, which reduces the air flow and makes the engine run a little hotter at these speed. I am planning on fixing it with a couple of little kicker scoops below the torsion tubes to kick the high speed air up towards the radiator.

My concern is the position of your radiator is such that it's always in a low pressure pocket of behind the windscreen and seats / in the cabin. It might cause problems.

We're not picking on you, and we appreciate you posting pics of your ride. I don't want anyone else to feel discouraged about posting pics of their work because they might feel they will get whinged at for their ideas. This is not how we're trying to come across. We're just adding constructive critisism that might help prevent or diagnose potential problems :)

he than got sponsorship from another brand
wheels are 6 stud landcruiser
CSA mags 16x8 back and 16x7 front

hey hot dog , I thinking here you have bolted the shock tower on the torsion arm ? as the steel these are made from doesent take to welding very well .Is there a bolt out of veiw behind the orignal shock mount ( were the two pipes are attached )? If so might be good to piont this out to some of the none Trade guys !

Did you make a header tank at the back of the motor ,so the donk does not get a air lock ??

I appears to me the old shock mount has been cut off. The new shock mount is bolted to the body mounting holes.

You can weld quite happily to shock towers and torsion housings on the VW. It is a myth. I have welded heaps of stuff to them with just a mig and before that an arc. You don't need anything fancy.

Proof is in the pudding..........

Wes I did some test peices and had them tested ( mate is in this line of work ), this was on the center section of type three torsion bar I had floating around .The mig would not take to it , the stick welder did ,but failed when we stretched it , the weld came away from the torsion bar in one peice . I did not get the metal graded as that cost $ . looking at the welds there is slag coating on some of the beams I have seen so at a gess I would say they weld them sub arc ??

sub arc welding may be tricky. With most castings the preheat temperature is the most critical.

As Brad said the proof is in the pudding. He has welded lots of things to VW shock towers, abuses his buggies and hasn't broken anything (anything he welded to the shock tower anyway).

You can happily weld the stuff... I dunno what you did seagull but I have had no problems.

I use low spped high amps on my mig and get plenty of penetration on it and you can see it take from the inside of the beam.

I have just finished making a proto type rear end adjuster which welds to the spline section. I have put 40 T on it and get no distortion or breakage. I am sending one for further testing at a mates shop. He will xray it and let me know what it looks like.

Have also just fitted one into a buggy so we will see if they hold.

brad My welding is no problem 1 tack 1 tone !!! no the weld faild on the cast center section ( type three ) where the 4 bolt are to bolt the gear box mount .
I dont know what the go was I had sent my 4 samples on that day this was the only one that failed ??? . I have had full Austrailian & NZ code 1554 from about 1990 .

It gets me. we need a enginer to pass our buggys ,trikes and hot rods ,provide welding xrays ,macro examinations ect ect .$$$$$

Then you can buy a welder from Kmart build a trailer from a plan included take in down and get it lic .????

you use a plan to build trailers over there ??? Wow .. we just make it up over here :cool:

Yeah I dunno, all I can say is that I have never had anything break away from the torsion housing on a VW and I weld stuff to it all the time.

The engineers I use have no problem approving it and have never even mentioned having issues.

Musthave just been a bad day for ya :P
