Country Conspiracy
Now that I am back in the VW Family again I decided to do the rounds of the local wreckers to get an idea of what is around in the way of VWs, in
particular beetles. I toured a number of wreckers in town (and rang the rest) to find only 1 beetle in the wreckers (leftovers of a baja shell).
Where are they all?
I found out after talking to a guy that all the wreckers in local country towns have a standing agreement with a guy in Sydney - he will buy any VWs
that come in - the wreckers just put them on a truck for Sydney and he pays $800 for any model in a basically complete condition (less if not
complete). He then refurb's them and sells them to the waiting Sydney yuppie market who apparently can't get enough VWs.
Any beetles that are sent to him are cut into convertibles because they get a higher price than standard bugs in Sydney.
What hope is there of finding parts here when the wreckers are happy for quick $$ by sending them into Sydney? Argh! Conspiracy I say.....
Anyone else got similar stories?

mmm chop top convertibles are worth a lot less generally on the australian market. Not too many yuppies want an old smelly VW!
There are a lot of VW's out there on old farms and stuff in country towns, waiting to be discovered. I know someone who just recovered 3 more or
less complete ovals in original condition

i think Che Castro is completely correct, there are many vws out there to be discovered, long forgotten in the farmers yard....i think its about time
people got out and surveyed the land, the new type of explorer, vw explorers.
