Chemical dipping
Has any ever had panels chemically dipped. I looking at the engine lid of my split and I can see rust between the outer skin and internal frame I want
to get rid of it. I thought by dipping the panel I could get rid of the rust and then coat the bare metal with fishoil or lanolin. Any suggestions.

yes ive had several panels dipped. I think theres only one place at Blacktown in Sydney, and you can never get a firm price from them.
Dipping is great when there is no hidden seems or folds in he metal like guards for instance.
It will diffently take the rust off.

From my experience with dipped panels, make sure when you get them home you wash and wash and wash the panel down with a fair bit of water. I think
using a bit of bi-carb soda in the water will help neutralise any acid deposits sitting between the metal frame and skin.
Any acid residue left in there will with time corrode the metal once it gets wet again.

Any acid residue left in there will with time corrode the metal once it gets wet again yes this is try, although the place at Blacktown, does wash
them down do it your self to double check the seems as it will bleed out over time.
Let us know if you find any other places doing this process.
Also Molassis in a large tank will do the same trick its a little slower and stinks a bit more, but cheaper if you have access to it.
