4WD---OK, Buggy---NO WAY :-(

Just got of the phone to the WANDA BEACH 4WD PARK and lucky I decided to check the cost of entry as I was asked my vehical type whick I replyed BEACH BUGGY and was given a NO WAY, sorry 4wd only, with a little more investigation I an told they are not sure of the insurance aspects of letting a 2wd go driving round on the sand..

Man I hate the insurance thing, always in the way of FUN..

But what do you all think, they also think that allowing beach buggys will attract Reckless drivers, I think some 4WD'ers I have seen out are just as reckless as anyone else no matter what car there driving..

Ahh well I am just Mighty dissapointed, a beach in Sydney that I could drive on, yet it is not to be so...

Bugger..... :cry

Man - you don't want to hangin' with those 4 wheeler's anyway. It's just no place for a Dubber. They just don't understand. You'd be like the kid at a dance who doesn't get a dance partner because of his braces.

You need to move to Qld. There are plenty of beaches up here where your buggy would be welcome:P

Well i hate to say but over on North Stradbroke Island the local greenie group has put a stop to 2wd on the beach. It is a $320 fine if you get caught driving without a permit and well unless you get a freindly ranger that will ignore the rule he may give you a permit. just ask for one of the old brochure that don't say anything about 2wd and ignore the signs as you enter the beach. No sign on the adder rock entry to flinders but they have them on main beach.
Also damn hard to stick to the 40km/h while trying to get of the beach after the easter traffic and soft sand.

They may think its a un registered buggy, if the insurance is for any vehicle that is registered, the buggy should be ok. Up here on the skid pan you must have registered vehicle to use the skid pan, but upon investigation you must just have third party insurance, so you can run a unregistered vehicle if you get 3rd party for it!!!

When did this come in? I've booked a barge over the straddie for May long weekend with the Manx but haven't got a permit yet. Does this mean I can't buy a premit at the barge like we used to?

well i went over at easter and the ranger asked if the vw was 4wd and after i said no he went on to tell me that only 4wd are allowed on the beach. but being a nice guy that he was he handed me a brochure on beach driving and it said nothing about 4wd only and then said just drive to sensibily and don'y hoon and i should be right.
If you don't get one from the barge go to the camping ground just before the bowls club and see him.
I thought of just carring an old diff in the front and saying yeah its got a front diff.

Thanks for that. I'll try and get a permit on the Barge but if that fails I'll try the ranger. I'll let everyone know how I get on. If I get rejected from driving on the beach I'm not going to be happy. I find it very narrow minded. Maybe the Manx buggy club could write a formal letter to Redlands shire voicing our opinion and ask for consideration for offroad 2wds.

One of the advantages of being in a club is our united opinion. We'll see how I get on.

Mike.

Blackies is a 'public road' not a private park. So you just drive on a block or so north of Swansea SLSC and go for it! Well I did, anyway!!

Yeah Blacksmiths is a free for all beach, but no where as fun as stockton. only 40min up the road.
If its a weekend come and see us at silver city (the Huts) on stockton.
You can always count on some one there to help you out if anything brakes.
I live at Annabay at the other end of stocko. I'm at the huts most weekends on the quad

Here is a tip for all those filling in Forms.

Do Not Write Dune Buggy!!!!!

Just Write Manx or J&S or what ever your Buggy is but Do Not Write Dune Buggy, Call it a kit car. Most of them will not bat an eye lid if you do this.

If asked tell them it is a road registered, kit car with the same offroad capabilities of a 4WD.

I've had a permit for my Buggy on Bribie before and Brad and I went to Straddie last Easter with our Buggies.

I also have a permit for the state forests around here(they told me I could not bring a Buggy into the park)

Refer to above post for how.
