yes i cant forget ur darling mum and her sandwiches and vanilla cokes.
yeh we got alot done that day, i was so amazed. ryan decided to stay on and help us put the body back on, but it was too heavy for the 3 of us as we
almost dropped it on its side. then james came round and we got it on. back at uni this week but should get more done in the next week or so.

decided today instead of putting it all back together we will take the shell back off and degrease/repaint the pan and suspension, make it all look
pretty... in black.

Ok I'll ask WHY ???? Whay would you swap from IRS / Ball Joint to Swing axle king and Link ?
Surely not for wide 5 ? casue you could have run them on Ball Joint / IRS ?? I just don't understand why you would give up safety and ride quality
without reason ..
What am I missing ?

Brad,
I know you can put early Type 3 Wide 5 rears on an IRS rear end but what would you put up front to retain the 5 stud pattern on a ball joint beam? CSP
kits are expensive, and Sherman kits are just for K&L? I'm interested to know how you might do it.
Thanks
Steve

You use beetle drums..
Rear - Fit straight on. If they are from short axle wide 5 box then you run an inner bearing spacer to compensate for the shorter
spline area and allow the nut to pull up tight.
Front - BJ spindles are smaller than K & L so you simply run a different bearing in the wide 5 drum to allow it to fit. I would
have to check but the 4 stud drums may help here with bearings.
Anyway it is actually pretty simple. We use to change the buggies back to wide 5 when we first started playing BJ and IRS pans.

I think Sam is going for period correctness for whatever his resto secret is! (probably much more interesting than big brothers secret)!
I was thinking of going wide 5 on my cabrio as its on a 68 IRS chassis but I couldnt find a way of keeping the disks on the front and not running
adaptors. I even enquired with John Sherman about using his kit on a BJ spindle but no go.
Its all academic now as I'm going down the Porsche 944 brake road so I can fit some 993 Turbo twists which is a whole load of fun and games too!
Cheers
Steve
