I need to buy some parts from the UK, do I pay VAT if the parts are leaving the country?

NOPE. in fact check the quoted price if it includes VAT then can take 17.5% off the price.

I bought safaris 2 years ago when I was over there. No VAT if you pick them up at the airport or if they post them for you back to Aus, which is what I
did. The problem was that I was then charged 10% GST, then on top of that, 20% import duty. Im going over again in a couple of months trying to work
out if they will fit in the overhead locker so you dont pay the duty.

I will be doing the same in June with some pop outs.
If you show your return ticket when you buy them you dont pay the VAT, then bring them back yourself so you dont pay import or GST.
Cheers
Dave

Hi
Thanks for that, Ive heard that if the parts are for a car over 30 years old there is no import duty into Australia.
