looking at a rebuild, what have you been quoted?
My bug decided to not run on it number one cylinder yesterday, so i have decided that after a valve grind it might be time for a rebuild.
I have a 1600tp and all i want is a standard rebuild.
I want to run the motor as stock as possible.
So if anyone has had thier motor rebuilt in recent time could you let me know as to a ball park figure that i may be looking at?

i did it myself and paid about $1700 for parts and other stuff.
this includes rebuilding heads with new exhaust valves, 2nd hand virgin case, used rods, re-used crank (engine i tore down was factory original - not
rebuilt before).
depends how much of your current engine is able to be re-used.
try to find out why your engine isnt running on number 1 before spending $$$ on an engine.

I had andreas 1600 twin port done complete with new heads and fitted for 2200 from volkspower in melbourne it was just over 2000 if you fit yourself.
i can thoroughly recomend as this motor is sweet runs cool and is way more powerfull than i was expecting for a stock 1600.

It's a really good learning experience if you do it yourself, its not really that hard - you just have to take your time. The book that basically
guided me through my first rebuild was "how to rebuild volkswagen aircooled engines" By tom wilson is really good. Steps through everything you
need to do step by step with photos. from removing engine and stripping to running it in.

sheers guys.
i got a quote today for a complete rebuild using brand new parts, lets just say that it will be a little down the track before it get it done.
They offered a DIY kit for $2300 which included everything to complete the job.
But i think that i would rather pay the little extra to have a pro do it.

I went thru the whole reco journey and I can recommend spending the money on new parts, don't get second hand stuff it will be worth it.

Contact Gary from Conti Engins up here on Bribie Island. He was charging around $1600 for a rebuilt 1600TP long block and had a 25000km / 12mth
warranty.
When you add up the parts you are much better off getting one of these and a warranty to boot
