My paintwork and the beach
Someone mentioned to me yesterday that parking your car next to a beach on a daily basis will eventually ruin the paintjob.
Unfortunately being that we live over the road from the beach I have no option as the bus won't fit in the underground parking lot.
Have any other members had experience of this and do you have any suggestions as to how to protect the paintwork
A cover isn't really an option due to the size of the roof on my Kombi. (see piccie on link)
Thanks for any suggestions (the cheaper the better

Mate it will eat your VW very quickly and the sun will fade your paint just as quick! Try and get a bigger cover if you can, may help. My 2cents

Hi shrek,
Just wash it with a good quality wash & wax soap and turtle wax|polish it regularly. This will provide protection against UV and salt in the
air.
Also go through the whole bus with fishoil; inside doors, gutters etc. Where moisture can settle....
Before washing spray some RP-7 or WD 40 around all the seals and nooks and cranies and chromework etc etc...

What splitdecision siad, they only way might be weekly washes and polishes. But get a good wax (eg be willing to spend some money) and one that has no
cut in it. Also get to the bus early with fish oil or similar to protect the insides.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Oh Poooo!!
Looks like the great location ain't so great for the vw.
So maybe I need to look at getting a BIG cover for it then, any suggestions on custom covers?
Now the reality of VW ownership starts to set it, money, money, money!! |

even a cover will not protect it properly. It will only help stop the spray drift from the surf. You will still have higher salt and water
concertrations in the air cirulating about the car.

I have a garage but surf everyday, so mine sits by the beach, just one of those costs for living in paradise, I wouldnt want it any other way, I dont
understand those who wont drive their VW's because the weather might wear them out, like others said keep it clean and enjoy the view...
