Christmas lights. Pretty, but not VW related.

OK, I reckon this is partly VW related in that I'm a mad keen VW fanatic and I also like pretty flashing Christmas lights... I will not budge from this excuse...

This is the house that gets the prize every year in the Gympie lights competition, and rightly so.

I'll post a pic in here of our own lights tomorrow night. Our's aren't as good as this guy's but they do still cover the whole house.

Wow what a display!!!:)

Reminds me of the film 'Christmas Vacation' with Chevy Chase - the Griswolds. Loved it when he was decorating the house!! :D

OK, here's our little effort with the lights. Walking around on the roof setting up the lights felt very Christmassy...

And our fibre optic tree. Not cheap but beats hanging lights all over it.

Very Christmassy!:)

Great job. Do you live in the same area as other house, does the whole street do something? We have areas in Melbourne where a whole street decorates their houses.

Seems to be becoming more popular every year. I've seen a couple of amazing desplays up already but I guess it's almost Christmas!!:)

We are the only people in our street that put up any lights at all, so ours can be crap and still be the best in the street. The city of lights at the start of this post ended up discouraging anyone else in that street from bothering because their display is so huge. I don't know how many thousands of dollars they have spent over the years, but it'd be a lot, and they take in their blow molded figurines every night (there's about 35 of them) so it doesn't cost even more overnight...

I've set ours up with timers and all wiring is concealed so that during the day, you wouldn't even know we had lights at all, but come 6:00 pm, even if we're out, all our lights suddenly spring into life.

I live in Abbotsford Sydney and there is a street around the corner that for the last couple of years would regularly get 8 Mr Whippies pulling up. This is like 20 houses in a row that go over board!
That is how we measure - in Mr Whippies.
I think it got to them this year cause they arent doing it.

Also a mate at work has made a light mixing board for lights that he has hooked up to his computer so as he can programme all sorts of sequences into - a bit like a rock concert, as opposed to flashing on and off.

Kids love it - i just dont understand!

I haven't got any photos, yeah I know strange for me, but their is a house here near Lake Macquarie that literally stops the street. It has 3-4 icecream trucks parked along the street feeding little kiddies lined up, cars park up to 4 blocks away and walk in to have a look and the council has to put up barriers to stop people parking in the neighbours driveways. Last year they even had stop / go people because the constant 5kph rubbernecks driving past to get a glimpse without having to walk three blocks.

Last year the council ammended their by law for the house to make sure it had turned it's lights off before 10.30 so the neighbours can get some sleep. All monies raised go towards the Westpac Helecopter here saving lives all over the Hunter.
