1800 kombi engine number stamps

Does anyone know where the engine number is supose to be stamped on a 1800 kombi motor.
A friend has just bought a 1800 motor and we can't find the engine number any where.
Also are they supose to run 1600 twin port heads with a beetle fan shroud

It will be on the case near the breather box. Stick your head into the engine bay and with a torch...look down beside the breather box base, stamped on the case.

No. These will not fit. Are you sure it is not just a 1600 motor? The engine number will be on the case below the Altenator/generator stand if it is an upright motor. Good luck!!

Thanks mick,
Yeah the barrel size match the 1800 but it is a upright motor.
And checked where the number would usually be on a 1600 and no stamp.
Did they ever make blank cases. There is no sign of grinding to take the number out.

Hmm...a picture would tell 1000 words in this case. Is it an 1800 motor with an upright conversion??Are the pushrod tubes smooth with flares where they go into the head and engine or are they consodined (ribbed) like a 1600 type engine?? What year is the Kombi?etc etc....:thumb
