1960-1970 beetle Specs

A newbie to this aussieveedubbers and was just wondering if there were any good sites for getting the specs of the 1960's to 70's beetles. I have been given a beetle and my goal is to go beetle to buggy inside a year. Current owner can only tell me its a 60's model and i am trying to get an idea of the amount of work that i have gotten myself into.

You've got yourself in for allot of work.

Best way to get info on Buggies and Bajas (especially in QLD) is to join the Manx club.

http://www.manxclub.org

If you want to know more about you particular floorpan post the first 4-5 digits of the chassis number here and I will tell you what year your car is and what suspension set-up etc it will be running.

Engine No: F0693480 = 1300 cc = 1966 engine
H0693480 = 1500cc = 1967 engine

I cannot get a fix on an engine number with the numbers You gave.. one number too many..
WHAT is the PREFIX ?? F or H
so I took the first number Off...

Chassis Number : 197,591,813 1969 Model with ball joint front suspension 12 Volts

and We don't go hitting our Beloved Beetles with a hammer !

I'm not 1 for unneccary abuse either. got out there to pick it up some one had firstly flogged the tyers :( (but left the rims thank christ, and busted the bonnet. tried to bunch out the pins but was rusted in so well had to bend it .. not happy. Reasonable glasses tho and i wond b wanting any of then soo... their all up for $$ all glases are good except 4 possiblythe actual door windows (winders are jammed down.

must be the F0693480 = 1300 cc = 1966 engine because all the badges are claiming a 1300cc motor.

toying with the idea of a turbo ... off road & unregestered so power - weignt ratios arnt critical. Are the bottom ends heavy enough to take the extra power?

cheers
:cry:cry:(
