new Aluminium cases

What are these new Aluminium cases like? I know they weigh 7gk and are clamed to be better but has any one used one. Planing to build a warm 1770 cc engine for my buggy, and already have a new universal case for 1200cc and would prefer to use that in the Fvee. What do they cost and who can I get one from?

Be careful when buying them. Some are absolutely shit and have fallen to pieces, others are a real work of art.

Stan "The Man" Pobjoy uses only the Al case for his "Steroids" motors now, so he would have a supply of them I'm guessing.

A lot of the yanks are still saying that for anything other than a pure performance engine a new AS41 case will work fine. CB Performance sells a "super case" which is an AS41 with some work put into it. Good deal.

http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=185

Give Stan a ring and see what he's got, and what he reckons.

Be warned though, he's a good talker.

PS
Here is a link to a real work of art:

Hey mate,

there are two new raised roof aluminum cases for sale in the states...this is for stroked engines primarily. $479 US
The normal aluminum case is $299 and the Aluminum empi case standard is $249....both will need machining for you 1776. about $50 US. and about $25 for full flow.

Go to
http://www.actionimport.com
http://www.vwparts.net

Or have a look in the Vw trends mags or hot vw's.

Cost for shipping (express) is about $170.US

It will cost you about $900 -$1000 all up if you get hit with duty/tax.

Hope this helps.

Theres lots of good and bad stories about aluminium cases, and from what ive read there are lots of different types from different manufacturers so its a bit of a minefield!

There's a bad story on those new pentroof cases that i read a few weeks ago on shoptalkforums.

http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=71896

Dont know how true it is??? those yanks are weird anyway

Yep those TF-1's are shweeet! They have thru bolts, ready for full flow oiling, although they cost about US$1400 from what ive heard.

There was an article in a recent Hot VWs about new (ish?) Bugpack and CB performance alloy cases. Showed lots of pics and that was about it though, and the contact details were a little sketchy- or was that my memory :D

Cheers

I would guess the story is true... CBs pentroof case is not on the market yet - thats because instead of testing it out on customers, they are testing it themselves first !!!
