Computer Troubles!!!
I havent been able to be on the aussieveedubbers much since saturday when my computer went very unuseful!!! It kept flashing me blue screens. At the
moment i am using a uni computer. My computer is at the doctors (IT Warehouse where it came from!), i am sposed to find out what is wrong with it
tonite. But still its a monuemental pain, considering i cant be on here much. I tinks my computer might have a virus in its harddrive.
:cry:cry:cry:cry Hope it can be fixed!!! or otherwise i will die of boredom! a mean what can i do instead?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!
I STRONGLY recommend you use both anti-virus software and a firewall.
Norton is very popular for anti-virus, and doesn't cost much (you can download a free 15-day trial version which will clear any viruses, but won't
keep ckecking for new ones all year long like the paid-for version).
A good free firewall is Kerio Personal Firewall.
It's also a good idea to run a program called Ad-Aware to prevent spy-ware. This program is also free.
Google will find all of these programs for you.

Yeh its probley got a virus. my computer craps up all the time and my brother comes on and tells me i have a virus and fixes it for me. he is all
computer techno and im just a basics girl. i dont know much at all......i know how to change the colours and use msn :P anyway hope its gets well

i would reccomend a hardware firewall if possible..
just a Pentium 166, with 64Mg RAM with 2 network cards (or network card and modem) and run smoothwall Linux.. if you only have one PC u use, use a
cross over cable to connect it to the firewall (need a network card of course) if you use multiple computers (this is where firewall becomes really
handy) connect the computers to the firewall by a hub or switch, and straight thru cables.. works a treat, and you have your own little webserver
Smoothwall linux is a server Distro and has no net bios, so it prevents attacks. while mine was running, my software firewall never had a logged
attack
oh dear.. my nerdy-ness has been revealed!!!

Thanks Eirinn, i was running an anti-virus program called AVG problem is i not sure if it were a virus, but i think i might look into buying a program
to do it all for me, the AVG was free and apparently most virus writers know all about free stuff and will write against it anyway. So yeah definetly
i will be looking at it more closely. I have had virus trouble before once and that was a few years ago. But i thought nah be fine just run AVG which
was good back then..so yeah have to get some different software.

When I was running antivirus software at home I had so many problems, no I don't run anything and havent; for a long time ..... haven't had a
problem !!!! |

probably still have the probs.. but no anti-virus software to let you know  not all probs viruses do can been seen unfortunatley
