Battery Acid and Clothing!!!!!!!!!

i picked up my old dead battery today to move it out the back.. and somhow i got acid on my jeans, and the back seat of my car.. i had the bettery in the little storage space behind the seat i washed it quickly with water but there are spots that are turning greenish (black jeans) the acid is dry now, so will it keep eating? im still yet to check on the seat.

I think it depends on how long the acid was on the stuff before you watered it down. Battery Acid is pretty strong stuff even when it is mixe with water for batteries.

Bit of baking soda should fix it right up... Not restore colour, that is, but at least neutralise the acid.

Many salts (maybe also the one that's in the battery) absorb water from the air. Try leaving a little pile of table salt lying around. Unless you live somewhere warm and dry and sunny, it'll absorb water and become wet and make a mess. Yeah, it works here in Melbourne, and we have no heating at my house! Cool! It was sunny about ten times today, and rained about 15 I reckon! On-off-on-off-etc...

Those batteries sure are heavy aren't they!

yeah the batteries arnt the lightest lol..

i washed it straight away, and i washed the seat heaps, so there is no mark on it at all! :) i think a bit of permanent marker will fix jeans.. can hardly notice it any way :)

Had the same problem while stripping a beetle down. All seats were out and without thinking I sat on the battery, (not thinking). No water on hand so just brushed it off. Now I own a very individual pair of overalls with wonderful tartan patches on the right hand bum cheek. :o

Yay go bogans. I cut myself a grouss mullet last year. Needed a haircut 'cause it was long, and so I clippered all but the back. We had a party and I wore trackies and socks over the top and a flannel. And listened to the GUNNERS! YEAH! Only thing I haven't got is a VK with a homemade spoiler made of crappy steel (thanks for the line Area 7).

Bogan on,

Dude - I keep tellin' you about the stuff - but do you listen?

Noch mal fuer Bloede (again for the ignorant)

Battery Acid is for drinking.

Lithium grease is for smearing all over the body before sex.

Now don't mix the two up or your in REAL trouble!

AND you made the beginners mistake of wearing CLOTHES whilst repairing your Dub. Silly boy! You just haven't lived till boiling oil has spilled out upon your Genitals. You know what I mean guys. Wasn't the first time wonderful for all of us....Oh, I could tell stories!

back in my printmaking days (intaglio, litho...) we mucked round wif nitric acid on a daily basis, being the pov I was (plus lazy) I was known to put hands straight into the bath without gloves.... makes ya hand go all yellow and flaky! as does caustic soda.... had many a burn hole in my clothes..(pov art student, wore em anyway till they fell apart).....

basically ur pants are beyond saving..... and remeber acid equals burnies.... so does brake fluid.... hey sir wombat,, quick tip: purple pills should not be eaten as smarties! If the prescription does not have your name on it, it's best left alone!
