Breaking In ???

Just wondering what other people do with Hipo engines ??

I just kind of beat mine up from the start (after cam break in), mostly due to a lack of self control :thumb

A very experienced U.S builder, when asked the same question said....... get in it and treat it as if it were your ex girlfriends car who slept with someone when you were going out and you just found out.

My rings are fine, assemble with crc as the only lubricant in the cylinder, after 10 minutes driving wind it up to 7500 in second 5 - 6 times up a hill and its a done deal...

The only thing Ive shattered is my eardrums.

A lot of yanks use no lubrication at all (or so I heard !!!).

I suppose it depends on what rings you use. It takes me more than ten minutes just to warm the engine up, let alone run it in! I still say be nice to your engine til it's settled. a thousand k's of nice driving and two oil changes before you pretend it's your cheating ex's pride n joy.

Im not saying what I do is right - it works for me, just interested to hear others experiences. The other side of this story is I tend to pull things apart a lot, so nothing really gets the chance to wear unduly.

Current engine iss cima top and oil and total seal second rings. Generally I use std rings.

How long does the cam break in take...I have heard varying numbers????

I will be breaking in mine soon, and I'm pretty sure I will not be smashing up on it like i did that 318is of my ex whenever I drove it..and that was when we were going out.

20 minutes @ 2 - 3k under no load. Usually the cam comes with recomendations. If running dual springs just run the outers and put the inners in after the Break in.
