headlights...68?

the headlight rings on my 68 beetle have like 4 or 5 screws in them, but everyone i go to buy a new pair off try to push me these ones with only one screw in the bottom each when i tell them i have a 68. is this some kind of weird conspiracy or are my headlights not standard for my model?

my 68 has one securing screw int he bottom of the ring.. and then one on either side to adjust where the beam shines..

i have no problems

(besides them being really old and leaky = shorting out tail lights when wet)

head lights rings sold in the USA have one screw at the bottom as thay use a sealed beam light and here in oz we have a replacable light bulb (if you look in the light bucket in the fender you can see the sealed bean mounting tabs) cant understand why the US type would be sold in oz.

I recently bought a pair of headlights for my fastback which have 4 or 5 screws to mount to those tabs in the light bucket. They are called semi sealed beam as the lens and reflector are all one piece, but the globe is replaceable. I got them because they take the globes with the three tabs sticking out of the base instead of the plain round base. I found the globes with the plain round base hard to get and they weren't available in the Narva +50
I bought them off ebay and still see them come up reasonably often.

these are the same as a 76' model beetle, as well as early Golf. The bulbs are called H4's (three tabs)..............................as for 5 screws on the rim ??? both my 68 and 69 models only have three, one at the bottom to secure the rim, and two opposite each other for adjusting the beam.

the ones with 3 screws r the one with one screw:P

bottom screw holds rim in place, one on either side control the direction of the beam. thats all

kinda looks liek the ones on either side MIGHT attach also.. but they wont.. just dont worry about trying to attach them.. you slide rim over the top. screw in the bottom.. and turn the left/right screws to get desired light beam position :)

Yes its odd someone trying to sell You late 1303S or 76 Beetle & Kombi headlamp rims.. they were made of chromed metal or plastic.. I see the plastic ones are very expensive in the US.. I would think they would be expensive here too..
You can update Your headlamps with Golf MK1 7 inch semi sealed beams and add Narva H4 Plus 50 bulbs and Yoiu will notice the difference... actually some of the VW parts people are selling imported brazillian New headlamps which aren't all that expensive...
