NEW SECTION? Legalities of mods
Hey guys I was thinking it might be really helpful to have a tech section dedicated to keeping mods legal and safe. I know most people want to do this
and as insurance companies, govt bodies and cops get wiser the need will be much bigger.
I was thinking of the following;
1. A definitive list of popular mods that are/can be no nos.
2. A definitive list of state vehicle codes as they effect Vws.
I know it might take abit of work, but in the interest of staying safe, properly insured and the scene keeping a good name, I think it would be
invaluable.
That way, if people have a mod they are thinking of, they can check it out on the forum first before performing it illegally and inadvertantly causing
other to do so.
I know I have already been stopped from doing some silly things and other have too. This section would be a really good way to do the same for others
in a deliberate fashion.
What do you reckon?

hmmmm.. nice idea BUT it might be best if people ask individual questions if/when they need to...? But I guess what you are proposing is all these Qs
be stored in a 'master list' or reference section, so they don't have to ask questions that have already been answered?

That's the idea, but also the opportunity for individual questions.

In principle a good idea, but...
There is no definitive list. Much of the legality is up to the engineer/registering bodies "interpretation" of the rules.
Another down point here is some people are stupid enough to take as gospel here one person's interpretation. Then when and if they get done they try
the Yank trick of turning legal processes towards them!

Well for the QLD people they can spend $80 and buy the Code of Practise and work it out for themselves.
Then spend the 40 cents and ring and engineer if they have any firtehr questions.
I am with Matt, it is a good idea but would never be accurate and idiots would attempt stuff they shouldn't based on what one person has written. As
for legal mods.... you can put in a stereo ... but even that can be illegal if it goes to loud.......

Yeh, you are right
I just feel like it would be good if we could do something.
Besides, why would I spend $80 bucks on a book from the govt, when I could save another $80 and get myself a another g/box or something. :thumb
Unfortunately, I think alot of people think that way too.

So you want to sponge of those who do make the effort to understand the rules and talk to engineers? :thumb

Just kidding. I sponge too. But I agree with Brad about the legal issues.

Every time such a question is asked the loudest voices (those of they that know least) always shout the loudest...
One lawsuit would finish the forum for good, and we know how things are getting.

I agree... by doing this I think we would be putting our asses on the line for lawsuits.
As Brad said, go out and do the investigation the old-fashioned way. By all means though, share the info on what you've done, plenty of us would be
interested in reading it.
