How do you other baja boys lock the front hood on your cars?
i would like to get a locking mechanism for the front hood on my baja as at the moment u can just unhook the rubber catches and its open. id like a
secure place in my baja as its a 62 it has shite door looks and id like to put valubles in the font.

I am in the process of glassing on a late beetle bonnet catch to my Baja (project). It will operate in the same way that the std late beetle bonnet
catches work (ie: I'm not going to change anything major). I also looked at using a type 3 bonnet catch as it also has a secondary catch, so should
the bonnet not be locked for some reason, it doesn't just fly up and distroy itself...just ask my Brother how that works!:puke
Will take a bit of work, but at least then the bonnet can be locked and only released from inside the car...

you can buy a small lock up box from some of the off road shops I have seen them ,you bolt it to the floor ect , very hard to open .

Somebody mentioned a safe. Why not put a lightweight lockable strongbox in there?

I've done something quite similar.
I have a late beetle latch fiberglassed to the underside of my bonnet. I then bolted the lever inside my glovebox same and where the L bug had it's
lever.
So the glovebox lever open the bonnet the first click.
I have no handle on the bonnet, which is normally the 2nd catch. So what I did was cut off the part of the link that goes to the button, and welded a
small lever onto it that stays under the bonnet. It then works exactly like a normal car bonnet. The lever if the glove box unlatches it, then go to
the front of the car, lift the bonnet a little, feel under there for the small lever, push it to the side and then the bonnet opens.

if the hood lock on my super bug wasnt wrecked i might be able to do this but alas......hmmm i wonder if i can source a small lock from a hardware
store with a key. that i can fit to the hood and have the seperate key to open the front.

My Son has little meatal catches similar to what the rubber ones used but instead of rubber bits they are syainless steel and adjustable , maybe
lockable too with a small padlock...

Yeah, that can be a problem!
Personally, I think 68AutoBug's idea of using the metal hold down catches that can be locked using a padlock are the best idea, if you are looking
for a cheap, easy fix. I have seen these latches in the past and they would almost be a direct replacement for the rubber latches that you have at
the moment. All the metal ones that I have seen can be locked with a padlock too.

Use the right ones mate. You could break those thin little dinky ones with your teeth, and a padlock is gonna do a lot of clanking and jingling all
over your nice bodywork.
Hey, why don't you just advertise for someone to get you the popup system out of an old bug on the forum? You could probably use one out of any pop
up hood and just shorten the cables. The latches just screw in on most modern vehicles. I reckon a Barina or Golf would probably do the trick. There
has to be something salvagable at your local wrecker. Think outside the square man (sorry, the padlock idea just sounds a bit primitive compared to
the other option).

i was thinking i could get a small tumbler lock from a hardware like what you would lock a wooden box with or something and use that.

not a boy, but have baja *sigh*.lol. I just pop riveted a crap aluminium
latch (not unlike the ones on lockable boxes) from hardware onto bonnet and nosecone bit, small padlock,, bewwdi moite. (mine was not really for
theft, more i didn't want the bonnet flying off in traffic again.. happened twice, and dented roof in.lol.those rubber latches have a nasty habit of
becoming brittle over time, plus 18mnth child at time thought they were great play things).
