Ive been told I have a worn gear stick bush thingy in 72 Kombi, having trouble with second gear mainly . Anyway I need to replace it, but Id like to know what its actually called before I go asking for a worn gear stick bush thingy which sounds stupid

in the parts game here you'd just call it a gear shift rod bush dude, just drop the thingy!!! this is assuming the bush is at the base of the shifter....

Could be the bush/ coupling at the rear where the long shift rod meets the box.

yeah go under the car and check the "C" shapped thingy (coupling) that comes almost straight out of the gear box alot ofthe time it just needs tighting butu they are cheap enough to replace and once done dont need to be replaced for a fair while making it one less thing to worry about :)
