calling all computer nerds - help! my computer has AIDs......
hey --- am getting really peed off with my little brother's computer.
i think he must llook at too much porn or something because now it is impossible to use internet explorer!
everytime i type in an address it re-dircts me to some weird place (with no porn) but still, a very strange website..........
so i have given up using explorer and am using netscape instead which is kinda annoying.
as far as i can figure out - when i look in "history" or "favourites" there is all the free spyware shit or something..... and its there even
though i haven't been to those sites... i try and delete them and then they just reappear.
my little brother reckons he has given up, he tried to get some free anti-spyarew stuff to block it but it all cost money so he gave up.
then he swore at me a lot and told me to use the internet at my own house!!!!!! hehehe. fair enough. but i would like to fix this stupid arse thing so
i dont have to use netscape.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
come on computer nerds.......any ideas?????
thanks, thorun |

You probably don't have a firewall up which may mean that people are accessing your drives through your internet connection and slowing things down
too. Yay!
A lot of Adware and Spyware has a self replication function that works through Windows making backups in system restore. If you kill them, they're
cloning their evil progeny in the background, so it makes no difference. Many Virus protector packages will identify these things and quarantine them
rather than deleting them.
If you:
go over the start menu into Settings/control panel/system
then take the "performance" tab in that window
then hit "file system" in the advanced settings
then take the "troubleshooting" tab in the next window
AND THEN check the "disable system restore" box
you should be good to go on a killing spree.
If you don't feel comfy killing it yourself, download a virusscan package from someone. If you've got no dosh, search for freeware on the net.
Shareware costs money freeware doesn't. Search here:
http://www.shareware.com
I've just installed the sygate firewall (free) which is doing a nice job of things. It seems to stop a lot of junk banners being downloaded in some
sites too.
If you have any other q's, ask Vandy Andy. He'll fix you up!
CU!
BTW when you've killed your adware or spyware, uncheck that system restore box again.

Wow I just reread my post - anyone would think I knew what I was on about. unless they knew what they were on about?!?!???!?!?!?
What's with your little Brother? If he's into the porn stuff and has screwed his PC up, why are you now taking responsibility? Or is it just like
the episode of the Brady Bunch where you check out Jan's diary... erm...LB's weblogs?
BTW Thor - I am constantly relaxed, which is generally the source of all my problems. Did a rush job last night to get some dosh for some new brake
pads. On the way home, they start squealing really nasty and my brake light comes on. Kewl! I'm in denial and didn't throw the Bay onto the stands
today, but I probably should've to check the damage.
I've never used the adware freeware before. I guess it cant hurt to give it a shot, and if it doesn't work then try my way and rerun the software.
Just take it click for click as I wrote and you'll be fine. If you can get driver door glass into the Type 3, you can handle this (Oh yeah, you broke
that didn't you?!?).

Oh God Thor! You put so much effort into loserdom and then advertise it to the dubworld. "Extreme personal degradation" you've made it into a new
sport. D'you recon they'll have it approved for Athens? Go for Gold Grrrrl!
41 objects is a BIG worry too. That means that every potential employer and every potential future sexual liaison knows what you Brother does online,
and has downloaded his underpants off the harddrive. He's only gonna get lucky with hairy Japanese transsexuals. So much for becoming an Aunty!!!
Hey, there's always Miriam and adoption. Where there's a will there's a way!

451 "objects identified" in total....wow.
well, they are gone now huray and i am using explorer againwith no probs.....good good good! so the aids is cured.....still might be hiv+.......
so thanks mick and martin (for the moral support if nothing else)
and there is no effort in my loser-dom wombat. it comes so naturally to me. there is no need to advertise...........no need to hide.......why may i
ask are YOU at home on a friday night???? at least i am eating well!!!!!!!! and no screaming kids around me!!! and for your information i was invited
out 3 times tonight (thanks BiX, fellow car-nerd) but turned down a night at rics in the valley cause my lungs are still coughing up green shit and
that has loser written all over it baby...hehehe.........no amount of cool sneakers, racing stripes and glitter can cover up the whopping amount of
phelgm coming out of me!!!!!!!!!! |

yes zonealarm is very good...one of the best free firewalls you can get.
i'd also recommend spy sweeper by webroot. it does a very good job as well. (i use both...)
