interior respray and headliner questions

the headliner is not in bad condition and i was going to wait to replace it, but i am changing the colour of interior with respray/bare metal/ and removing rubbers and replacing rubbers. can the current liner be partially removed to get a better looking spray at the edges and the replaced? is it better to replace the liner now...will i have to sacrifice window rubbers in the future when i want to replace the liner? bascially what should i be thinking about with interior respray if i was going to plan to keep current liner?

You can do it if your carefull and its not too old n brittle.

Most of the time they fall apart while your looking at them

when does the new liner go on before or after the rubbers are put in?

at what point do i need to arrange to have the healiner put in, if the sprayer doesnt have somebody then i will have to drive it somewhere, i assume with the windows in, so is it a big deal to take window rubbers out and the replacing them, i thought it was, and that the rubbers would suffer damage.

You can either rip out the headliner now a,d when the painter has finished, get the trimmer to fit the headlining there, or you can get a towtruck to take it to the trimmer.

I drove our beetle to the trimmers with no rear or side windows when I was getting a little bit of work done on the bottom of the headliner at the back and sides.

If you want to keep the headliner that is in it and repaint all of the insides, you can unhook the edges, paint it and the re attach the edges and put it together.

Later on when you get a new headlining you will need to have the windows taken out again but that should not bee too much hassle if it is done within a year. I have taken quite a number of front screens out that have been in for a year or two and if they have had a new rubber and a non hardening sealant they come out with a bit of patience.

See the respray of beetle posts locked at the top of this thread.

Just make sure there COLD.

New origional type headlining kits are available if you need one or do you want some other type material.
