elusive little buggers i tell you......

scene- fueled by numerous brews one madman tries to drop the 1.8 fire breathin monster and gearbox outta 75 bay.

problem- with all apparent bolts removed, engine appears to mystically levitate and give me the sh@ts.

solution- get blotto and lose interest, till next weekend.

so where are they guys!!!!!????? i removed the transmission mount bolts at the front of the tranny, i removed one nut that was behind the carbies on the firewall below the top inspection hatch (there was only a nut there!) and i removed the crossmember bolts but she aint goin nowher!! i'm guessing there must be a couple of bolts hiding above the clutch area or something, any ideas!!!???

Once you get those two "secret" bolts, you will find that you can't just drop the engine/gearbox straight down b/c the gearbox needs to be slid back to clear a cross-member. To get enough clearance you will need to drop the engine down while supporting the g'box. You can then push the kombi a few inches forward and let the gearbox down. Voila! Then just jack the back of the kombi up and slide the engine/gearbox out. It helps if you lower it onto something with wheels, like a cheapie skateboard!
