why wont my buggy run?

hey guys. hoping to get some answers here. my buggy decided taht i wouldnt go any further after dropping my mate off on sunday night after central coast cruise. we arrived at destination. turned the car off. went inside for about an hour and then i decided to head home. got in the buggy started it, and got about 15 meters when it coffed and died. after a few attempts of trying to start it just wouldnt...

i checked spark, fuel etc and nothing. went back the next day and it fired up straight away but then died with in a few seconds, and then nothing for the rest of the arvo.

ive check the fuel pump, i think its fine. the fuel lines, the spark to the distrubutor, and even pulled the carbie off and check the jets and stuff... i am not the best mechanic so i am obvoiously missing something. can some one help?

could it be a loose wire some where or is it fuel and im not checking something properly?

you have to leave the key in the ON position.... :thumb

nah but seriously, it could be a wiring issue. Try hard wiring the Dizzy and see if she runs then.

If its starting and then stopping first thing that comes to mind is crap in the fuel lines that settles after a little while, then when the pump starts sucking again, builds up and blocks the line / filter / carby jets or whatever.

But it sounds like you have already checked that out..... I guess you might need to check the strainer in the tank as well.

i wondered taht. i blew through the fuel line to the tank and it was no worries. and checked that fuel goes thru the pump. the buggy had jsut run, and yeah i admit pretty hard, for 150klms an hour b4 it decided it was happy where it stood.

any other thoughts/ suggestions? thanks

how can you own so many cars and not now how to Hot Wire a dizzy :duh

You can connect a wire directly to the input side of the dizzy from the battery. The output side of the dizzy goes to the coil. The input side comes from the ignition switch. You want to connect power to the input side, then start the car. Do not leave the car hooked up like this when not is use as it will potentially kill the coil (just like you shouldn't leave the key in the ignition position when the cars not running)

Doing this totally eliminates the ignition switch, if it still cuts out after doing this you know it's not an issue with the ignition switch. Which just leaves points, coil, and fuel. If you've already checked out fuel then you are down to two options (points or coil). It's a process of elimination.

I take no responsibility for your actions and if you choose to take my advice you do so under you own risk.

Run a "hot" wire from the battery posetive to the coil posetive then try to start it as normal with the wire connected. If it starts you will have to remove the wire to stop the car. Good luck!!:jesus

Wes iwould be thinking the distributer condencer is failing, Now with as many cars as you have to eliminate a problum start replacing parts but only one at a time as you may fix the prob somewhere and not no you have fixed it to great expence later on un neaded parts PS it is pretty hard for any body even pro's to fix a problem like this without seeing the vehicle

we had a Lbug paddock burner and all of a sudden there was no power to the whole dash board soo we ran a special hi-tech peace of wire for the coil out the boot lid around the side shut in the door and onto the battery and away we went again untill we rounded a tyre off the rim!!

I once had a similar problem in my old notch- turned out to be the distrubitor- some fiber shims had broken allowing the shaft to move up and down a bit.... so as I drove off and picked up a bit of speed the car would just die.... took me months to figure it out as when stationary everything tested fine- till i hit a bump and the shaft bounced and shorted the dissy out or something. Put a 009 in it and never had a problem since.
(hope this helps?)

Do you have a tacho in it? If so, disconnect the signal wire from the coil and try again. I had a worn wire earthing mine once and it would die suddenly on left hand corners.:cussing
