how low is too low? (Legally)
Just wondering what the law states (in Vic) for height.
i beleive it is something along the lines of :
"any part of the body or suspension not less than.............?"
can anyone fill in the blanks?
90mm ? 130mm?
everyone seems to "know" but i want to K N O W!:thumb

100mm by the adr's which all states laws are roughly based on but check with vic road to be sure

yeh i was tool 100mm, but i think thats the chassis, the body may be lower...... am i wrong? or right? ive allways wondered?

yeh i rang RTA tech guys the other day to make sure and it was 100mm, lowest point of the car

technically it's 125mm (5" in the old money) and with 20% loading, it becomes 100mm and that's measured at the lowest part of the car

Technically, it's 100mm only if approved by an engineer.
Legally, without an engineer's certificate you can only lower to 1/3 of the suspension travel. eg. if you have stock 6" of suspension travel, you
can lower 2".

I read somewhere on the Vicroads website in the vehicle schedules that brake backing plates are not included in the measurement.

Lowering or Raising of Vehicles
The road clearance of a motor car must not be less than 100mm
measured at any part of the vehicle other than the wheel rim
or brake backing plates. (This does not apply where a lesser
clearance has been specified by the manufacturer.)
When lowering or raising a vehicle body (front or rear):
• the suspension travel in the bump or rebound mode must
not be altered by more than one-third of that specified
by the manufacturer;
• coil springs are to remain in locating seats on full
suspension droop without forcibly being removed.
In addition, the normal relationship between the front
and rear suspension heights must not be unduly affected.
Suspension coil springs must not be shortened by cutting.
Leaf spring suspensions must not be raised by the use of
extended shackles or adjustable metal plates. If lowering
blocks are used, they must be either steel or aluminium.

always thought taht is was when you lowered the car after doing the mods, and you CANT GET TEH FRIGGIN JACK OUT!... thats neville front on.
