i thnk some of the buggy boys were looking into the reanault 5 speed box. But to get a 5 speed transaxle in you will require major work, from a porche
or a full racing box, it will be alot of custom afbrication work. Is the mrs east west or north south engined? you migh find alot of the mid engined
(not rear as in beetle) will have a similar setup to a front engined car (eg east west engine) but which has been mounted at the back. On option that
may be work investigating is using a north south 4wd gearbox, eg wrx, as these i believe may have the outout shafts for the front at the side so of
the box, but you would still have to flip the box over and again ist alot of custom fab work.

MR2 engines are mid mounted and rear wheel drive arent they.....might be an interesting conversion though i have never heard of it being done and i
doubt it would work well. anything is possible if u have the money. if you are worried about your ratios and having the extra gearing of a 5
speed....get your box rebuilt with the ratios you want for highway driving or whatever. it will be cheaper and easier.

I have seen a camira motor placed in the rear of a honda city. It was a very fast track car. basically just cut the front end, (engine, gb and
suspension) out the camira and welded it into the honda witha roll cage.

yep well anthiron, i think the MR2 is east west layout and therefore the gb wouldn't fit. one option is if you want a nice short circit setup, go a
low third but stock 4th that way you have a close 1,2,3 for race up to about 140 ish km/hr but the normal highway ratio?

yeah i was thinking a Liberty RS box. as this is the engine which i would use for a conversion eventually. the liberty used a variant of the EJ20T. it
is same engine. just slightly diff heads i believe. still 147kw (197hp). and i can only find them in bloody half cuts. . anyone have input on this. how would a 4wd box go with a non 4wd car?. and
also is the 5 speed kit worth getting?. i have at the moment 1200 to spend. looking at spening about 1500 in this chunk on my car. eventually looking
to build a real performance street car. do u think i should spend the money making my engine more powerful. or maybe a pedders sports ryder suspension
setup?

If you are only intending to build a 1776 engine i'd spend the money on setting up the chassis properly. Upgrade the suspension, steering, brakes,
get it all tight. I think this would be the most bang for your buck in the overall scheme of things.
A 5 speed box should probably be the last thing on your list, not many ppl do it because it is difficult and expensive - its a bit of a luxury
item. The 4 speed box is fine if your engine is flexible enough.

what castro said. well setup suspension will be more of a improvement, than the extra close ration of a 5 speed box.

hehe i'm a fan of the stock shifter myself, with urethane couplers and a new shift rod hanger bush with a quick shift kit. Nice and tight - a bit
notchy though, although better than a lot of modern cars
you can make your own strut brace pretty easily if u can weld out of some box section steel.

renault box requires floor modifications.
subaru boxes from liberty, RX and WRX CANNOT have the diff flipped so you'd have 5 reverse and 1 fwd gear.
Caravelle 5sp will fit wit no more mods than a kombi box BUT the ratios are all wrong and 5th is still more or less 1:1 ratio, and they are weak as
cheese apparently.
your options for minimal mods are (as far as I can see) gene berg kit, or porsche, but both will cost the equivalent of the Chinese national debt.
If it aint broke,
