my handbrake just BROKE!!! Please help!
well i just moved my car, so i can romove the passenger seat for the upholsterer.. and as i put the hand brake on, the right cable broke, so i have an
old car battery keeping my car from rolling into a wall!
anyone know how time consuming/hard/expensive fixing this is? should i do it myself.. or get a Pro to do it?

all depends how handy you are?
you need to jack up the right hand side
pull off the wheel
take off the brake drum
undo the cable
pull it out
grease up the new cable
slide it in
put drum and wheel back on
pull it out under the hand brake
re adjust and refit
if you have all the right tools ie 36mm socket for the axle nut
all depends how keen you are and how much time you have I guess

save your self a lot of hassle and buy an idiots manual, i know it sounds stupid but its one of the best manuals cause of the detail of the pictures
and instructions.

I'll second the idiots manual and DIY-ers. Priceless.
The Monash region (Mt Wav, Clayton, Oakleigh kinda district) libraries have several Muir VW manuals floating around. Lots of fun to read, too.
Cheers,
Aurel
