you can pick up late model seats from dismantlers for a song.
all the rice boyz pull out their factory seats to put in their race seats.

If you can modify the seat to fit in the factory mounts, do you still have to get it certified?

i recon the rx3 seats are super comfy, thats what i have in my '76. on teh drivers side the orig base has been modified to fit, and on the passenger side, as it was a panelvan with a benchseat, a frame has been built up and i have been able to use the original rx3 rails

hey
i have some seats out of an unkown jap car that i got for free from a little someone so gonna try them they are fiarly comfortable i think the only way to do it is bolt the bases to the chassis and use there runners not that ill get any adjustment anyways!!!
only thing i gotta do is lower the seats mounting point to put the seats down cause i guy like me (6 foot 3) hits the roof!!
but i might check out other options aswell as i want to find something black!
cheers

Hi Rhys,
as long as the original seat runners and mounting style is used you shouldn't need an engineers cert. This is generally the case in Vic in my experience.
Cheers, Ian.

Hi all I put R34 Nissan Skyline seats in the front of our 76 mod kombi real comfy.
Made the passenger seat into a swivel seat to face the back of the kombi as a lounge chair when camped.
Only $200 for the seats at import place in brissy near springwood.

Rhys, Im pretty tall like you, and on the drivers side, by cutting the base of the frame off a standard kombi seat and welding it to the points on the bottom of the rx3 bucket i have enough room that i dont hit the roof even with my modified rooflining.

Hi Rhys
I know what you mean by the original Kombi seats being so uncomfortable...the ones that were in our 76 kombi were dreadful.
Once he got them out, we could see why...they were all broken underneath. No wonder we felt like we were slipping forward out of them. And we'd both have back aches on long drives.
It took my husband quite a while to find some replacements that fitted easily without too much modification, and he finally found some Holden gemini seats in great nick that work really well. $50 the pair.
The gas bottles are behind the passengers seat, and so they had to flip up with a lever.
Our first kombi had Sigma seats and they were wonderful.
