Replacing Fuel Sender Unit

Hey guys
Just bought a replacement fuel sender unit for my 74 L bug. I had a bit of a half arsed tinker and I think I need to re/move the fuel tank to remove the old one and install the new one .........would I be right in thinking this ? And any tips on what I should or shouldn't do when attempting this bearing in mind I am very very technically challanged. Appreciate and comments.

Thanks

the sender should be in the top of the tank in the middle and it just unscrews

yep its there all right
But there is a thing above the fuel tank....looks to be the back of the dash that gets in the way of getting the old one out and the new one in.

yup
Got the complete kit from Mick Motors along with instructions that mean F&$* all to me lol
The bloke who services the car told me it would cost 200 bux and up to fix so I was hoping to do it a lot cheeper than that so far its only cost 70 bux.
Just getting the old one out of the tank is holding me up

so does vern still have the original boot lining that should just lift out and then you disconect the two wires on the old sender noting where the go and unscrew the sender and feed it out, remove the old o ring put the new one on and feed the new one in, then tighten attach wires and it should work

hmmmmm not boot lining. The fuel tank dender is NOT in the middle of the tank .....more to the passengers side
but like I said there is a sealed bit that sticks out only as far as where the bonnet starts but it is half way over the sender unit. We are talking 74 L bug !
