engine backfiring

hey guys

just a quick qvestion.....

is it a bad thing for your engine to backfire?
i live in toowoomba and to get to brisbane u normally go down a rather steep hill (we live on a mountain, funny that) to get there. my engine always backfires on the way down, every time.
i'm usually in 3rd gear.
and it only happens on hills.

is this a problem?

sounds like it to me: when you're compression braking down hills, it's sucking air back into the manifold. bang! bang! :thumb

Yeh, I had a similar problem before, it turned out that the leak came from one of the heater boxes.

See my old post...

I like it when it does a good one in a built up area, and you see peeps look at the car in stunned shock, ducking for cover from stray bullets......bwahahahahaha......:P

I split the seam along the side of my old turbo muffler with one of those entertaining backfires. It was bloody loud!!! :D
