Thingys beside handbrake
I once again seek information on my first ever beetle.
There are two black knobbed switches/levers, one on each side of the handbrake in a 71 beetle. They move up/down.
What are they?

On my Type 3 the one closest to the driver turns on the heat and the other one opens the vest. You can vary the heat but only opening the heat a little
bit

Yes the RHS one is the heater control...
although the amount of heat is controlled by the engine speed...
The left one opens the heater vents under the rear seat...
