That's from a 2004 model VW Street Machine!

At that sixe it looks like a Beetle bonnet badge.

My 68 Beetle has one that looks identical to that...

I think the type 3 badges were slightly smaller....

the early beetles had an aluminium badges smaller again...

Not sure about golfs etc...
