webers what connects to what?

Lots of questions as I am trying to work out everything before I go and swap my single carb, for the pair of IDFs:

On the side of the IDFs are two connections, a higher one and a lower one (see attached picture)
I assume one is fuel in, but top or bottom one.
And what connects to the other one (distributer vacuum tube?)
Also why would the top one be a different diameter on one carb than the other one?

Obviously I use a T piece to connect the fuel to both carbs, but do I do this also for the vacuum line from the distributer as well?

8mm (5/16) fuel line seems to fit well on the larger connections, but currently my fuel pump has 6mm line connecting to the stock carb. Will this matter if I change to 8mm? Will I then have to change the brass connection on the fuel pump somehow, or just clamp it on the existing connection?

All help much appreciated.:jesus

Another question

When tuning the carbs, it is a must to have one of those syncronising tools or can it be done without.
If it can be done without, anyone have a description of how to do it?:)

These are Alfa carbs and it has something to do with their fuel system

You block one off. Doesnt matter.
Jus bring your fuel in - T it and block the other. MAKE SURE YOU CLAMP IT TIGHT.
You can link them together as well. It is just a second intake

As for tuning them read some of the articles here

http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/dualcarb.htm

and how to jet them

http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/jetting.htm

Do you need a synchrometer - YES

Well actually no but for the first timer they are worth their weight in gold!
Get one. Dont stuff around

I posted another link - the redline weber link

read the articles their as well. It will all come together when you start doing it. You have to jump in the deep end - no other choice.

Pull your jets out and understand what jet sizes you have. You need to know this when it starts farting and coughing to fix it.

Keep the questions coming

Thanks again for the help.

I'll give it a go when I get the sync tool.

Cheers.
