Carby troubles
Hi,
It's probably been answered before but i have a major flat spot in my carb! When it happens i just play with the accelerator pedal and off it goes.By
then i have to change gear! It's the standard carby off a 1600cc (1972).I've read i should buy a 2 barrel weber? If so how much and where do you get
them?:cry

if You buy a two barrel Carburetor, You will need a different inlet manifold, to fit the carburetor.
Weber used to make a carby that fitted straight onto the standard VW inlet manifold..
What carburetor are You using?? Solex 34PICT3 ??
You can fix the problem by adjusting the accelerator pump on the Solex carburetors, so they squirt more fuel into the manifold... this condition is
usually caused mainly by the Bosch 009 distributor....
It works on revs, NO revs, No Go...
If You had an original VW Vacuum/centrifugal distributor You wouldn't have any problems...
There are people using all sorts of carburetors on this forum..
So, most carbies can be adapted....
My Son runs a Holley Bugspray carburetor and inlet manifold, plus bosch 009 distributor...
and His car really goes, but at the expense of more fuel...
It is a dual throat carburetor....

the most coomon mod for this is the 30/31 pic carb fitted with an adaptor plate which uses the standard manifold. alternatively fit a twin barrel
progessive which has both power and ecconomy but uses slightly more fuel than standard but has more power

Thanks guys,
Yes, the carby is a Solex 34PICT .. one. I'll try adjusting the accelerator pump on the carby(have to look at the vw book for idiots) and see what
happens.I just want it to run smooth.Yes i had a 009 but i put a electronic dizzy(Scorcher) that i bought for my past failed dream of a big HP bug
engine! Thanks again.

Here is a link for adjusting your carb
http://www.geocities.com/aussiebug1970/acclrtr3.html
read a couple of the other stories as well
Make sure everything else is perfect first or you could just be masking another problem.
Pict carbs are a bushed carb in the butterfly shaft. These wear and suck air - leaning it out. If the butterfly is loose your carb is stuffed.
Also things like cracked manifold boots can cause air leaks and flat spots.
Anyway
Futue te ipsum!!!
