air-conditioning for kombi

has anyone tried running air-conditioning in a kombi with a rotary rather than piston-type compressor? how did it go? was it powerful enough to keep the bus cool? any trouble with the engine overheating?

Here are two threads about aircon, though they don't specifically mention rotary v. piston compressors, except:

The compressor is the older piston style. Great to use as an air compressor, but very inefficient by comparison to compressors used in modern vehicles. (Incidentally, the old aircon compressors found on VWs were also the inefficient piston style.)

These models also used the older style of gas, which is (legally) now no longer available. ...

That's from the second link. Sorry if I missed any other relevant posts.

this question was posted on the samba site a few months back. One reply actually showed a diagram from a company that instals the a/c,(on bugs) even tho it is in the states the info may cut out any guess work.....problem is trying to find the thread and posting it here, but given a boring weekend i might be able to find something....don't hold your breaths tho (unless someone else can locate it in the meantime)
