On a Silver Metallic Beetle- Chrome or No chrome strips....

What do other Forum members think of the following: Would My Silver grey Metallic painted Beetle look better - With or Without Chrome strips ??? Now ordinarily, I would have left them on.... but the bonnet strip had a little accident and was creased... So I asked My Son, Scott, to braze up the chrome strip holes... meaning the bonnet only..... But somehow... All the holes were brazed up.. and I now Have another set of chrome strips... not aluminium either...
OPINIONS please.....:bounce

Along the same lines how do you colour code the chrome items, e.g. headlight rims/bumpers as per the german look. Can you just paint over the chrome with some kind of surface preparation?

Paint over the chrome....??

I am not sure.... there would have to be a special application or preparation I'm Sure.
My Son's 56 oval is Pearl White with black chrome strips and they haven't fallen off after 10 years... and His Bumpers are white... & it hasn't fallen off either... & one bumper is sitting on a shed roof....
but XD XE XF Falcons had bright metal around the windows on the doors and these were painted black for some unknown reason.. and the paint does come off these,,.. Maybe the preparation or paint is better Now.....

chrome on Silver metallic

Yes I realise david,
that chrome on a dark coloured car looks great.... Have a look at an early model falcon or magna with lots of chrome - have a look at a white one & a dark coloured one.... BIG Difference... Same as a dark coloured car & a light coloured Car both with a black grill and bumper cutouts etc.... they tend to be invisible on a dark car...

Chrome bumpers, no chrome on the air vents.
