Split kombi hand brake lever
I am trying to take the handbrake lever off my 60 splitty and the pin is seized. I have removed the circlips from each end and tried tapping it with a
hammer and also tried to rotate it using multi grips. It wont move and only rotates with when you move the handle. Is a press needed for the job or
just more lubricant?

You need a special press.
Cant you do what you have to with it in situ.

Thanks Dave I think I can get it working again for the time being but I want to sandblast the area before I paint it. Anyone got one of these presses
or can you buy for not too much?

Try heating it up with a gas torch!

The Heater
MMMM,
After many frustrating experiences I find the winner
is to heat it red hot and drive the pin out with an air chisel (chatter gun) with broad blunt end.....
If you hit it/punch it too much when its stuck you'll burr/pean
the ends of the pin and then you'll NEVER get it out!
(and how is it I'm so sure of this?)
regards
RobK

Thanks for the advice. The pin was already starting to burr a bit so I stopped before I really stuffed it. Rob are you taking the heater tube off to
get the air chissell in or are you coming from the steering box side

I attack it from the steering box side. There's
access through that way if you have an air chisel
tool of just the right length. I just ground the head of a
pointed tool down (to reduce length and flatten/broaden head)
to make a tool to do this very job.
