This is an easy one (how to replace h/brake cable)


Can some one please remind me how you replace a set of hand brake cables in a 63 bug, I don't have the car here and I'm going to do it for a friend on the weekend.:)


PS.....She has one of the nicest bug's I have seen in a long time and I'll try to remember to take a pic:)

remove hubcap

undo 36mm nut with a F B socket and bar remove split pin first

loose wheel nuts

jack up car and put on jack stands

rattle n remove rear brake drum and wheels

undo 13mm bolt on inside of backing plate.

use pliers to pull cable end off brake arm

remove hand brake boot and undo 10mm nuts

remove old cables

I had better follow these instructions tomorrow as i am replacing both cables on my 65

Thanks, I do remember all this but isn't there a catch to putting the cables back in the tunnel:thumb

sometimes there a little short so u have to yank on them with long nose plies when fitting to the hand brake cable.

U might need someone else to fit the nut and its a good idea if you remove one of the seats in order to fit cables to hand brake lever.

I suspose it took me about 2 hours today to fit my new ones,
